Chapter 28 Agility and Speed Bonus
Chapter 28 Agility and Speed Bonus
Li Jiuhe pondered as he observed.
He stopped moving for the time being and waited to see if the stone figure on the roof beam would return to the dark corner from which it had just emerged.
But after waiting a while, I found that the creature was firmly climbing on the roof beam, not moving at all, as if it was waiting for me to move before it made its move.
"Isn't this a dead end?" Li Jiuhe felt frustrated. "Did we run in the wrong direction? Although we can't escape directly from the main hall, perhaps we can escape from other places, as long as we can increase the distance between ourselves and this stone man."
By this time, his eyes had fully adjusted to the dimness of the hall, and his visibility was slightly better, but he still couldn't find any clues.
After a moment's hesitation, he slowly bent over, gently shifting his feet so that one was in front of the other, then firmly pushed off the ground with his back foot, preparing to sprint like a sprinter at the start of a race.
Regardless, he decided to test how long he could withstand the stone man's relentless pursuit.
Although his movements changed, he remained standing in the same spot, so the stone figure above his head behind him did not move.
Li Jiuhe then took a deep breath, pushed off with his hind legs, and suddenly started running.
Almost at the same moment, he heard a metallic clanging sound behind him. He had only taken two steps when he was struck hard on the back, and his whole body froze instantly.
Looking down, he saw that the iron chain had pierced through his body, entering from his back and exiting through his chest with tremendous force.
"I underestimated this guy!"
The scene before him changed the next second, the mission was reset, and Li Jiuhe stood with one foot on the threshold of the main hall, not daring to go in for the time being, but just trying to look inside.
The danger level of the Dark Palace was indeed much higher than that of the Morning Palace.
Most importantly, he still hasn't found a way to break the rules of the Hall of Darkness.
After carefully examining the area, I mentally planned my escape route. I couldn't escape outside the hall, nor could I run in circles around it, otherwise I would be caught sooner or later.
Before long, his gaze settled on the spot where three broken Buddha statues were placed, a place that was now vaguely visible.
He still remembered that when he first woke up in this alternate dimension, he was lying on the ground not far from those three broken Buddha statues.
The incense burner in front of the Buddha statue was overturned, and incense ash was scattered everywhere.
There's an incense burner there too; maybe we can find some clues there.
With an idea in mind, he stepped into the main hall once again, and a familiar rustling sound immediately came from a corner in the darkness.
Without hesitation, Li Jiuhe ran directly toward the three broken Buddha statues.
That direction was actually the direction from which the stone figure's footsteps came, which meant that the distance between the two was actually shortened.
But because the stone man had just begun to move, Li Jiuhe was exploiting this time difference.
As he approached the incense burner and altar of the broken Buddha statue, the sound of the stone figure running began to rise, rapidly drawing closer.
Li Jiuhe ignored it, focusing all his attention on the overturned incense burner in front of him.
The incense burners here are different from those in the Morning Hall. Although they are also made of bronze, they are filled with incense ash, while the incense burners in the Morning Hall are empty.
"Should we straighten these incense burners?"
Li Jiuhe guessed what was going on and immediately reached out to right the overturned incense burner.
There were only three incense burners in front of them, which corresponded exactly to the three broken Buddha statues.
He quickly straightened the incense burner, but the approaching stone figure did not slow down at all, and its agile figure could already be seen.
So it's not as simple as just supporting the incense burner.
Li Jiuhe immediately picked up the incense ash that had been poured out of one of the incense burners and put it back into the incense burner.
But the footsteps did not stop. This time, the stone man did not leap onto the roof beam, but instead quickly approached Li Jiuhe's side.
The thick chain was thrown violently, one end of it smashing down hard on his head.
Li Jiuhe instinctively turned to run away, but just as he was facing the broken Buddha statue, the chain struck him squarely on the back of the head.
His entire head exploded like a cracked watermelon, splattering red and white matter everywhere.
However, in the moments before Li Jiuhe died, his gaze was fixed on one of the Buddha statues.
It was then observed that the Buddha statue was also wrapped in a large number of chains, which looked very similar to the chains on the stone figure.
The image freezes, then the scene changes, and he is once again standing at the threshold of the main hall.
Panting heavily, feeling a slight ache in his head, Li Jiuhe subconsciously touched his perfectly intact head.
He quickly turned his gaze toward the three Buddha statues. Just before he died, he saw not only that one Buddha statue was wrapped in chains, but it seemed that the other two Buddha statues were also wrapped in chains.
Because the chains are made of black iron, they do not reflect light in the dark and are difficult to detect unless viewed up close.
"The stone figure was also bound by chains, and it even used those chains to kill me. So, could the mystery be related to the chains on the Buddha statue, and not to the incense burners?"
Li Jiuhe pondered to himself.
"Using one's own actions to cause one's own consequences?"
A moment later, he quickly stepped into the main hall and rushed towards the three Buddha statues without stopping.
The moment he charged forward, the stone figure in the dark corner also began to move immediately, and hurried footsteps sounded.
Of the three Buddha statues, the one on the far left was closest to Li Jiuhe and was already tilted to one side; this was also his target.
They quickly climbed onto the incense burner table and came to the side of the broken Buddha statue. Sure enough, the Buddha statue was wrapped with similar thick black iron chains.
Upon seeing this, Li Jiuhe instinctively wanted to remove the chains from the Buddha statue.
Without hesitation, he grabbed the rough chain and lifted it upwards, intending to remove it from the Buddha statue's head. However, to his surprise, the chain was extremely heavy.
Fortunately, his strength increased greatly, and he managed to slip the chain over the Buddha's head, just as the stone man's footsteps were already close at hand.
Li Jiuhe immediately grabbed the chains and ran around the fallen Buddha statue, trying to use the statue to temporarily block the stone man from getting closer.
At the same time, he focused most of his attention on how to unlock the chains.
They soon discovered that one end of the chain was pinned under the Buddha statue, but it appeared that the inside of the damaged Buddha statue was made of plaster, not entirely of stone.
He reached out and lifted the Buddha's body, which moved slightly. With his now doubled strength, he could lift it.
However, just as they lifted the Buddha's body, before they could pull out one end of the chain that was being held down, a gust of wind approached.
With a bang, the stone man's chains arrived and struck Li Jiuhe squarely in the face, causing his head to explode once again.
"Again!"
Li Jiuhe came to his senses at the entrance of the main hall. He first rubbed his face vigorously with both hands, then gritted his teeth and rushed into the main hall.
This time, he was already quite familiar with the area, so without any delay, he quickly lifted the Buddha's body while holding onto the chains, and then ran around the Buddha's body, causing the chains to loosen.
As the stone figure's footsteps drew near, Li Jiuhe's mind jolted. He grabbed the loose chains with both hands and yanked them hard, running in the opposite direction at the same time.
The chains rattled as he quickly ripped them off.
The moment he tore the chains off the broken Buddha statue, he suddenly felt his body lighten, and his steps became light and agile, as if his body's sensitivity and running speed had been instantly doubled.
Li Jiuhe threw the chain in his hand to the ground and ran forward as fast as he could.
boom!
The chains thrown by the stone figure behind them struck the newly untied, broken Buddha statue, shattering its right arm into pieces.
