Chapter 608: A Dramatic Turn of Events
Huang Xiaochuan's photos at the Clark Medal ceremony and the news of his award were widely reprinted by the media. This was also part of the public relations team's plan, which strongly demonstrated Huang Xiaochuan's academic talent and achievements, as well as his many successful investment cases as a record. It was almost a public statement that only someone like him could lead Sun Microsystems out of the mire and go further.
Huang Xiaochuan immediately understood that this guy had deliberately found an excuse to avoid the conversation, leaving enough space for the two of them to communicate.
Huang Xiaochuan responded neither humbly nor arrogantly: "Thank you for taking the time to meet with me, and I also agree with David's assessment of me."
The senator was taken aback for a moment, "Uh," but he quickly realized that this was a half-joke from Huang Xiaochuan.
He smiled slightly, then his expression quickly changed: "Dr. Huang, please understand, CFI's concerns are not unfounded. How can you guarantee that once Sun Microsystems is acquired by you, its core technology and talent won't be transferred to other countries?"
Before coming, Huang Xiaochuan had done his homework, so he could readily spout off his prepared remarks: "Senator, my acquisition of Sun Corporation was based on its technical talent and related technological reserves. In my plan, I had no intention of dismantling or transferring it. I injected capital into it to help it out of its predicament. In the simplest business logic, I am optimistic about its future. Managing Sun well will bring me considerable returns. Although I am a scholar, I am also a businessman. Maximizing profits is my constant goal, and I have no other desires."
This was indeed one of Huang Xiaochuan's main purposes in acquiring Sun Company, which was to make Sun a lifeline for his domestic labor-intensive enterprises in the future. Of course, he would never reveal his other purpose, which was to take things slowly and gradually.
Although he didn't say much, Huang Xiaochuan recorded every word in his mind. After the meeting ended, Huang Xiaochuan immediately relayed these words to his lobbying team.
The lobbying team was thrilled, believing that although the senator had not made any promises, he had shown goodwill, which gave the team a more concrete direction for their work.
Since attending the awards ceremony, invitations have been flooding into Changhong Capital's headquarters in Uptown New York.
Gao Song couldn't contain his excitement and read the invitations aloud to Huang Xiaochuan one by one. These were already selected, but there were still more than forty invitations left.
Just then, someone knocked on the office door.
Gao Song had no choice but to stop and open the door, where he saw Zhang Sui's secretary standing anxiously outside.
Gao Song asked, somewhat displeased, "What is it?"
Secretary Zhang Sui said with a somewhat unnatural expression, "Please tell Mr. Huang that a woman who claims to be Bella Bertoson wants to see him, and she claims to be Andy Bertoson's daughter."
However, Huang Xiaochuan overheard their entire conversation. Before Gao Song could speak, he said to Zhang Sui's secretary, "Please invite her to my office!"
"Okay!" Zhang Sui's secretary hurriedly left and soon brought a tall, slender woman in her twenties, dressed in a business suit and with a ponytail, to Huang Xiaochuan's office.
"Hahaha," Bella Bertoson couldn't help but burst into laughter at Chuan's appearance.
"Madam, I don't know who you're looking for?" Huang Xiaochuan finally spoke first.
"Oh my god! Don't you remember me?" Torsen feigned a very disappointed look.
Upon hearing this, Huang Xiaochuan couldn't help but scrutinize Bella Bertoson a few more times, thinking to himself, "I don't recognize her!"
Oh my god, Huang Xiaochuan remembered. When he was swimming happily by himself, a middle-aged man and a teenage girl struck up a conversation with him.
However, Huang Xiaochuan then thought of something else: "How did you recognize me?"
Huang Xiaochuan shook her hand and waited for her to continue; he was eager to know the answer.
"So that's how it is," Huang Xiaochuan finally understood.
Bella Bertoson raised her right hand to indicate that she wasn't wearing a ring, adding as she did so, "Please call me Miss Bella! I'm not married!"
Huang Xiaochuan quickly apologized.
Then he asked, "What would you like to drink?"
"Coffee! Thank you!" Torsen looked around the understated yet luxurious office with curiosity.
"Miss Bella, you didn't come to see me just to catch up, did you?"
"An envoy? Peace?" Huang Xiaochuan was momentarily confused.
Upon hearing this, Huang Xiaochuan felt a mixture of amusement and exasperation. "Why didn't you do this earlier? Now you've made such a mess of things and you're saying sorry? Are you kidding me?"
Huang Xiaochuan nodded: "It's alright, we've already prepared the necessary procedures."
"Old Bertosen asked me to tell you that once you officially take over the Suns, he hopes you will accept his invitation to a small party at his home." Bella relayed Old Bertosen's words to Huang Xiaochuan when the time was right.
"If everything goes well, I will." Huang Xiaochuan did not give a direct promise, but instead gave an ambiguous response.
"Huang, do you still swim?"
"I'll swim whenever I have time," Huang Xiaochuan said, chatting casually with the girl.
To his surprise, the girl directly asked him out: "Can I invite you swimming together?"
"I don't think I'll have time anytime soon, and you probably know why." After a slight pause, Huang Xiaochuan politely declined the invitation with an excuse.
"Alright then! You're a celebrity now, you must be very busy, so I won't bother you any longer. Would it be convenient for you to give me your phone number? This is my number." Torsen handed Huang Xiaochuan a business card without waiting for his consent.
However, Huang Xiaochuan still accepted the business card and even gave the girl his contact information!
