Chapter 15 gives Hao Da Sun a chance to shine!
Zhang Chengfei understood his implication and smiled faintly: "Section Chief, rest assured, if you ask me to do the repairs, I will do my best."
Section Chief Ma was relieved and patted him on the shoulder: "Young man, you're good, you've got a lot of potential."
He's no longer afraid that Old Qian won't let him fix it.
He was afraid that Lao Qian would ask him to fix it, but Zhang Chengfei was still resentful about what had just happened. Even though he could fix it, he deliberately only showed up to do the work but didn't put in the effort, thus delaying production.
Thankfully, it seems that the new technician isn't completely clueless.
Zhang Chengfei thought to himself, of course he would not retaliate in the workplace, but people need a life in addition to work, right?
He doesn't consider himself a vindictive person, but if someone offends him, he will never let it go with a laugh.
……
After discussing it, Section Chief Qian, Yi Zhonghai, and the director of Workshop Three finally reached a conclusion.
He stepped forward, forcing a smile: "Old Ma, our Master Yi spoke without thinking just now. I've asked him to apologize to Technician Zhang. We'll have to trouble your factory's top student with this machine issue."
Yi Zhonghai came over with a sheepish look on his face and apologized to Zhang Chengfei.
Section Chief Ma glanced at him and Section Chief Qian, saying, "Then we need to make this clear: if it's fixed, our technician Zhang will be credited; if it's not fixed, he won't bear any responsibility."
Why is this old Ma still going on and on? Section Chief Qian felt his noodles were burning hot.
But Zhang Chengfei wouldn't let him off the hook, deliberately muttering in a tone he could hear, "Our section chief is so considerate of his subordinates, afraid that I'd make a mistake and get punished on my first day of work."
"I just graduated and I'm full of enthusiasm to contribute to the development of our country. I really want to improve myself! I can't afford to get a disciplinary action."
Section Chief Qian's face burned even more, thinking to himself that like father, like son. Old Ma was difficult to deal with, and even the newly arrived technician under him was following suit.
He was cursing under his breath, but Zhang Chengfei was his only hope, and he couldn't afford to offend him.
So I kept smiling and saying, "How could that be? We're so grateful to our colleagues from our sister unit for taking time out of their busy schedules to help us."
"Master Yi was being disrespectful just now, and I have already criticized and educated him," he said at the end.
Zhang Chengfei then smiled and got down to business: "Shouldn't the machine have come with a repair manual?"
The workshop director immediately nodded: "Yes, but it's all in Russian, and none of us can understand it."
So he casually stuffed the instruction manual into the drawer.
Upon hearing that Zhang Chengfei needed it, he immediately sent a worker to find it. Not long after, the worker returned with a few crumpled sheets of paper.
Zhang Chengfei frowned: "Why are there only five? Where are the others?"
"Only five sheets came with the machine," the workshop director hurriedly raised his hand to defend himself. "I put them away as soon as I got them back, and I haven't touched them at all."
Section Chief Ma realized where the problem lay and spat on the ground angrily: "What the hell is this 'Big Brother'? Bullshit!"
Although the others remained silent, their expressions were also grim. After finishing his tirade, Section Chief Ma looked at Zhang Chengfei and asked him to translate the instruction manual to see if he could find the disassembly steps and solutions to the problem.
Zhang Chengfei carefully examined the instruction manual, feeling fortunate that the best subject he had learned in his original life during his vocational school years was foreign languages, specifically Russian.
Although he studied mechanical engineering in college and had the support of the system, he was really at a loss if he couldn't understand the Russian language.
After putting down the instruction manual, Zhang Chengfei said he understood the disassembly steps.
He walked to the lathe, glanced around at the crowd of onlookers, and casually pointed at Jia Dongxu: "Could you please bring me the toolbox?"
Jia Dongxu quickly brought over the toolbox and placed it next to Zhang Chengfei.
"Don't leave. You'll be my assistant in a bit."
"Hey!" Jia Dongxu knew that his third grandfather was giving him a chance to shine, and nodded excitedly.
The other workers in the third workshop, as well as the technicians from the steel rolling mill and the machine repair shop, were all discussing among themselves when they saw that Zhang Chengfei was actually going to dismantle the machine.
"A young man with no experience is unreliable. Is that all you've got?" Before Guo Da Piezi could finish speaking, he saw Section Chief Qian glare at him fiercely. He quickly shrank back and fell silent.
The others weren't stupid either; seeing his reaction, they immediately stopped discussing the machine and stopped talking about people.
"This machine suddenly broke down; it must be a problem with the contactor."
"No, I would say it's an unstable voltage."
"You don't know anything! I listened to it just now. The machine's motor makes noise but doesn't turn. It's obvious that there's something wrong with the bearings."
A group of people were discussing amongst themselves, saying all sorts of things. Zhang Chengfei ignored them, continuing to disassemble the machine piece by piece. When he needed someone to lend a hand or do the heavy lifting, he would ask Jia Dongxu for help.
This was the first time in several years that Jia Dongxu had worked under the watchful eyes of the leaders, and he was determined to prove himself. He did exactly what Zhang Chengfei told him to do.
Others may not know about his relationship with Zhang Chengfei, but Yi Zhonghai and Guo Da Piezi do.
Guo Da Piezi looked at Zhang Chengfei, curled his lip in disdain. "On his first day at work, he's already getting involved in nepotism. Is this what you call a top student?"
Yi Zhonghai's face darkened. He had just asked who could take responsibility, intending to sow discord between Zhang Chengfei and make things difficult for him. Little did he expect that he would be the one who ended up feeling uncomfortable.
The thought of being criticized by his section chief when he was only an eighth-grade worker, and seeing Jia Dongxu's obsequious manner towards Zhang Chengfei, made him feel uncomfortable.
Guo Da Piezi/Yi Zhonghai's dislike level +68!
Soon, the lathe was completely disassembled.
Zhang Chengfei wiped the sweat from his brow and called over the two section chiefs: "The main bearing is severely worn and lacks lubrication, causing a surge in friction and the machine to jam."
He looked at Jia Dongxu and deliberately asked, "Has this machine tool only been in use for a few months?"
As expected, Jia Dongxu answered fluently: "Three months. But Technician Zhang, the wear on this bearing doesn't seem like it could have been caused by three months of normal use."
After he finished speaking, perhaps realizing he had been a bit too talkative, he glanced discreetly at the workshop director.
The latter replied sternly, "Jia Dongxu, are you implying that the bearings were faulty when this machine arrived? Can you take responsibility for your words?"
Jia Dongxu remained silent, but Zhang Chengfei spoke up: "It's not just bearings. Didn't the comrade who was operating the lathe just now say that the parts made by this machine are always inaccurate?"
He pointed to a pile of parts next to the machine: "That's because there are three small parts inside that were installed backwards."
Upon hearing this, everyone fell silent.
If the bearings really did wear out due to their improper operation, then what about the smaller parts? Surely they couldn't have just accidentally reversed their orientation during use?
Section Chief Ma was furious: "Damn it! No wonder those sons of bitches wouldn't let us disassemble the machine, saying that disassembling it meant we wouldn't be able to maintain it. They were afraid we'd find out and settle accounts with them!"
The workshop director looked grim: "There was more than just this one lathe that came in at the time."
Although everything else seems fine for now, who knows if the parts inside have been deliberately installed incorrectly?
