Chapter 409: Sha Zhu Takes the Blame Alone
Chapter 409: Sha Zhu Takes the Blame Alone
Inside the interrogation room, the policewoman stared at Qin Huairu, her tone icy: "Qin Huairu, this is your last chance. Sha Zhu has confessed everything. He explained clearly how you and he killed He Daqing. I'm giving you a chance now. Even if you don't confess, based on He Daqing's blood-written letter and Sha Zhu's confession, you'll spend the rest of your life in jail. Confess honestly, and you might receive lenient treatment; refuse to confess, and you'll only face execution."
Qin Huairu was startled, her mind instantly filled with panic. She hadn't expected Sha Zhu to confess so quickly, even though she had clearly instructed him to do so. She desperately tried to deny it in her mind: Impossible, Sha Zhu would never betray her.
She almost blurted it out. But looking into the policewoman's eyes, Qin Huairu forced herself to calm down, still crying her eyes out: "Officer, I don't know what Sha Zhu said. I really don't know. You can't wrong me. I really don't know why he wanted to harm me or He Daqing. I'm innocent."
The policewoman was furious: "Qin Huairu, stop pretending! This act won't work on me! We're all women, who are you trying to fool with your tears? Even if you don't confess, I can still find evidence of your murder!"
Qin Huairu, however, calmed down, and even smiled slightly: "Officer, investigations require evidence. If you believe I'm the murderer, then produce the witnesses and physical evidence."
The policewoman was so angry that she was about to step forward, but the officer next to her quickly pulled her back: "Calm down, don't let her lead you astray."
The two walked outside, and the policewoman said indignantly, "Why did you stop me? People like that deserve to be taught a lesson!"
"If beating people up could solve the problem, what would we be needed for? We're police officers, not bandits. We can't act recklessly without evidence."
The policewoman calmed down and looked at Qin Huairu, who was crying one second and calm the next, and felt both angry and helpless.
The two reported the situation again. But no matter how they interrogated them, they couldn't get any breakthroughs in Sha Zhu and Qin Huairu's confessions. After Sha Zhu confessed to the murder, he remained silent, and the entire case reached a complete stalemate, much to the frustration of the police chief.
At this point, a police officer suggested, "Chief, why don't we call the victim's family? Sha Zhu has a sister named He Yushui; she's the one who called the police."
The director immediately nodded: "Okay, call He Yushui over and let the brother and sister confront each other to see if we can break through."
Soon, the police found He Yushui, who was stunned upon hearing the story: "What? My brother took all the blame, saying he has nothing to do with Qin Huairu? How is that possible!"
Zhang Lei, who was standing nearby, was also quite surprised. Murder is a capital offense; no matter how devoted Sha Zhu was, he shouldn't risk his life for it.
He patted He Yushui on the shoulder: "Yushui, I'll go with you."
He Yushui nodded, and the two quickly arrived at the interrogation room.
Seeing Sha Zhu's haggard face, He Yushui couldn't help but rush forward: "Brother!"
This shout made Sha Zhu look up sharply, and when he saw it was his sister, he burst into tears instantly.
"Brother, why? Why did you confess to everything? What kind of spell did Qin Huairu cast on you? That's our father! How could you do that? Did Qin Huairu bewitch you? Tell me!"
Sha Zhu just cried, "Rain, it's my fault, it's all my fault, don't ask anymore."
Zhang Lei hugged the excited He Yushui and looked at Sha Zhu: "Sha Zhu, I know you must have a reason for doing this."
Sha Zhu suddenly looked at Zhang Lei, his eyes filled with resentment.
Zhang Lei immediately became interested: "It seems you hate me? Why?"
"Why? What gives you the right to call the police? What gives you the right to meddle in other people's business!"
Zhang Lei sneered, "You personally harmed your father, and I help Yu Shui call the police, and you call that meddling? You unfilial son, what right do you have to talk to me like that?"
Sha Zhu was rendered speechless by the retort, so he simply shut his mouth, looking like he had nothing to lose.
Zhang Lei slowly spoke: "There are reasons for killing, and there are reasons for protecting someone. Is Qin Huairu worth risking your life for? For her? For money? For the house?"
Sha Zhu didn't react at all.
Zhang Lei paused, then said softly, "Is it... for the child?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Sha Zhu's eyes visibly flickered. Zhang Lei saw it clearly in that instant.
He immediately understood the situation and led He Yushui out of the interrogation room.
The officer quickly followed: "Comrade Zhang Lei, did you discover anything from what you just said?"
Zhang Lei nodded: "When I mentioned women, money, and houses, he didn't react at all, but when I talked about children, his emotions were clearly off."
He Yushui looked puzzled: "Child? But my brother was harmed by Xu Damao back then, and he's been infertile for a long time."
"That's the key," Zhang Lei said in a deep voice. "Sha Zhu is protecting Qin Huairu so fiercely because she must have something on him. In a life-or-death situation, the only thing that could make him willingly take the blame is the child. Can you get Qin Huairu a medical examination to check if she's pregnant?"
The officer immediately agreed: "Okay."
Soon, Qin Huairu was taken to the hospital by the policewoman.
Qin Huairu panicked: "What are you trying to do? I'm a law-abiding citizen, I'm going to sue you!"
"Shut up! You're a suspect now. This is a legal procedure. Cooperate with the medical examination."
Qin Huairu dared not resist any longer and obediently completed the examination.
Half a day later, the policewoman rushed back to the police station with the medical examination report—Qin Huairu was not pregnant.
Zhang Lei, holding the report, walked back into the interrogation room: "Shazhu, there's something you'll definitely be interested in."
He handed the report to Sha Zhu.
When Sha Zhu saw the words "not pregnant," he immediately lost control: "Impossible! You're lying to me! This is fake! You forged it!"
Zhang Lei and the police officer exchanged a glance and understood immediately—Sha Zhu had been tricked by Qin Huairu using the child.
"Shazhu, don't you know your own situation? This is a report from a legitimate hospital, stamped with the official seal. Who would dare to forge it? You've been completely fooled and even killed your own father. Was it worth it? Confess now, and you might still have a chance to live; if you keep holding on, you'll only face death and be scorned after you die."
Sha Zhu completely broke down, screaming, "I'll talk! I'll tell you everything!"
He explained everything in detail.
After hearing this, everyone present couldn't help but shake their heads and sigh.
Zhang Lei said helplessly, "Shazhu, you're really stupid. What's the difference between a one in ten thousand chance and zero? You're completely infertile. Qin Huairu said she was pregnant with your child, and she really is? I think you're really incredibly stupid."
However, Zhang Lei also realized that Sha Zhu's actions weren't solely driven by the child, although the child might have been a major factor, it was also related to Sha Zhu's lecherous nature. Otherwise, Qin Huairu wouldn't have been able to so easily deceive Sha Zhu.
Qin Huairu was placed outside the interrogation room, where she could hear the entire conversation. After hearing the result, she collapsed to the ground.
The policewoman sneered, "Qin Huairu, did you hear that? Come with me."
Qin Huairu finally couldn't take it anymore and confessed to all her crimes.
The policewoman excitedly reported the complete statement to the station chief, who immediately breathed a sigh of relief and felt relieved.
