Dude, something's really wrong with your abilities.

Chapter 90 A Crow's Mouth

Chapter 90 A Crow's Mouth

When Chen Shi woke up, it was already 8:20.

With only ten minutes left before clocking in for work, if he had lived in the office before, he would definitely have felt dizzy and exhausted, and then had to struggle to get out of bed.

But today was different. He felt completely relaxed and comfortable, without any of the pain he usually experiences when waking up in the morning.

Living in this apartment, he finally understood what true rest meant. Back in the office, the early mornings were filled with colleagues moving around and chatting, making it impossible to sleep soundly. But here, it was so quiet. No matter how noisy it was outside, the apartment remained peaceful. This was the most restful night's sleep he had had in a while, even better than his previous rented apartment.

The only downside was that strange dream I had last night.

In my dream, an old man with a white beard suddenly appeared and insisted on chatting with me. Luckily, I snapped back at him and made him run away, thus preventing my sleep from being disturbed.

After a quick wash and tidying up, Chen Shi ran to work.

The atmosphere in the five offices was still as relaxed as ever in the morning.

The fat man was munching on a meat bun in one hand and scrolling through his phone with the other, so engrossed that he didn't even notice Chen Shi walking into the office.

Chen Shi reminded him, "Fatty, I just saw the people from the Supervision Department downstairs. Be careful not to get caught by them."

The fat man didn't even look up.

The bureau's inspection department only had four people. They were supposed to be in charge of discipline inspection for the entire bureau, but they rarely did any inspections throughout the year. It was practically a retirement department. The fat man didn't take them seriously at all.

"It's okay, they're even better at slacking off than I am, they won't actually come to check. And even if they do come, I'm very familiar with their section chief, it won't matter if they get caught."

No sooner had he finished speaking than Deputy Director Zheng, along with a group from the Supervision Section, pushed open the door and entered.

A young man from the inspection department acted quickly, instantly pulling out his phone and snapping a picture of the fat man eating a steamed bun while playing on his phone. Another woman took out her notebook and wrote: Pang Daqiang, Group 5, Field Operations Team, eating and playing on his phone during work hours, violating work discipline.

Old Zheng's face was ashen as he stared at the fat man and coldly ordered, "Write your self-criticism and hand it in to my office before you leave work."

After finishing their speech, the group turned and left, giving no time for explanation.

The fat man was on the verge of tears.

He actually managed to stumble upon the once-in-a-lifetime surprise inspection by the Supervision Department. He wondered if he had somehow caught up in bad luck after visiting Chen Shi's haunted house yesterday, and it hadn't dissipated yet?

No, Chen Shi has to take responsibility for this. He should write this report for me. But then Fatty thought about Chen Shi's terrible writing skills and decided to give up the idea, resigning himself to his bad luck.

The office was quiet for several minutes before Su Xiaohe came over and said, "Brother Daqiang, don't complain anymore. Recently, Director Liu is launching a special campaign to improve work style across the entire bureau. The investigations have been particularly strict lately, and I heard that many departments have been caught."

"Why didn't you say so earlier?" The fat man was immediately annoyed; he hated hindsight.

"Even if I told you earlier, you probably wouldn't have listened," Chen Shi replied. "I already reminded you, but you just didn't believe me."

"Fine, fine, I give up." The fat man waved his hand, accepting his fate.

Chen Shi had to report to Xing Mufeng at noon and was currently free. Learning from Fatty's experience, he didn't dare slack off and planned to find some work to pass the time.

Su Xiaohe was the busiest person in the office, sorting and filing a thick stack of materials, classifying and binding them into volumes one by one.

"Xiao He, I'm free, let me help you tidy up," Chen Shi said, stepping forward.

Su Xiaohe politely declined, but a hint of joy was hidden in her eyes. It just so happened that this batch of materials required a huge amount of work, and she couldn't handle it all by herself.

Chen Shi picked up the manuscript and flipped through it, unable to help but sigh, "So many notes, all of them need to be bound and archived?"

"Yes, Teacher Chen," Su Xiaohe replied while organizing the materials. "These are all the case files from our Group 5 last year. The archives will be filing them next week. When I was checking, I found that a lot of data was missing. Brother Biao has been working overtime these past two days to fill in the missing data."

Chen Shi nodded: "Archiving is a big deal, and we really can't be careless. We can't afford to make any mistakes, otherwise it will be very troublesome to check later."

No sooner had he finished speaking than another unexpected event occurred.

As Su Xiaohe reached out to organize the documents, her elbow inadvertently brushed against a milk tea cup on the table, causing the full cup to spill over onto the pile of files. The thick milk tea instantly soaked through the paper, rendering several transcripts unusable, beyond repair.

Su Xiaohe looked at the mess of documents, her face instantly fell, and she almost burst into tears.

Chen Shi's heart skipped a beat, and he vaguely felt that something was wrong, but he still tried to comfort himself, thinking that it must be a coincidence and had nothing to do with him.

So he comforted Su Xiaohe: "It's okay, Xiaohe, don't be sad. There are electronic copies available. We'll have Brother Biao print out a new copy later."

No sooner had he finished speaking than Chang Biao’s groan came from the next workstation.

"Oops, why is the screen blue?"

Everyone rushed over immediately and saw that Chang Biao's computer, which had been working perfectly, was now completely blue, with a screen full of incomprehensible numbers and letters.

"Oh no, I didn't save it!"

The fat man realized what was happening and pulled Su Xiaohe and Chang Biao aside, deliberately distancing himself from Chen Shi with a wary look in his eyes.

"Xiao Shi, you're the one who did this, aren't you?"

Chen Shi felt uneasy, even starting to doubt himself, but he still stubbornly insisted, "What are you talking about? I don't understand."

"Has your superpower mutated, and now you're specifically cursing us for bad luck?" the fat man pressed.

"Stop joking, my special ability is telling jokes, it doesn't work on you guys, okay?" Chen Shi argued.

"Those lame jokes used to be useless, but now this 'jinx' is incredibly effective!" the fat man gritted his teeth. "Tell me the truth, were you behind this?"

Chen Shi felt utterly wronged: "It really wasn't me! Would you believe me if I said it was purely a coincidence?"

The crowd shook their heads.

"Coincidence my ass, let's test it on the spot! Let's use..." The fat man thought for a moment, then pointed and said, "Let's use Wang Jianlou as a test subject."

Upon hearing his name called, Wang Jianlou immediately wagged his tail and ran over, completely unaware of the wickedness of humans.

It's been eating well lately, so its physical condition has improved, and it runs very fast.

Chen Shi casually remarked, "This dog is really fast these days."

The next second, the chair next to the table inexplicably tipped over and landed squarely on Wang Jianlou's paw.

The dog, feeling the pain, let out a miserable howl, tucked its tail between its legs, and shrank back, looking both aggrieved and pitiful.

Everyone fell completely silent.

The fat man said with absolute certainty, "Now you believe me, right? It's definitely his problem!"

He turned to the crowd and began to embellish the story of Chen Shi's haunted house.

"Now you understand, right? Chen Shi's new house is not an ordinary haunted house at all! Everyone who went there before had bad luck, but he was the only one who lived there and nothing happened to him."

"And now it's gotten even more outrageous; the house's bad luck is now directly tied to his mouth. Whenever Xiao Shi makes a comment, everyone else suffers!"

Everyone felt a chill run down their spines.

One or two times could be a coincidence, but four consecutive triggers are simply inexplicable.

The people in the office instinctively took half a step back, clearing a large empty space for Chen Shi's workstation.

Chen Shi was stunned and wanted to explain, but everyone shouted in unison, "Shut up!"

In the end, it was Wang Jianlou who was clever enough to drag his injured leg to find Sun Tiemei. His limping gait was particularly touching.
