Chapter 55 Justice
Chapter 55 Justice
The communication with Aquaman had devolved into a fistfight within three minutes, which was not unexpected for Joey.
Joey swung his fist, smashing away the tip of the trident that Poseidon was thrusting at him. The weapon, blessed by Poseidon, left a shallow cut on the back of Joey's hand.
One is an underwater person blessed by the sea god, and the other is a Kryptonian who can traverse the universe in his physical body. The resistance and pressure of the seawater are nothing to them. Their fight on the seabed is almost no different from their fight in other places.
Aquaman, with an agility beyond his robust physique, swam behind Joey in an instant, thrusting his trident forward to pierce the latter's heart.
Joey quickly turned and retaliated, deflecting the trident's blade with an elbow. The impact was so powerful that it even blasted the seawater, turning the area around them into a vacuum of seawater.
This time, the magical light from the halberd tip only scratched a layer of skin, causing almost no damage to Joey.
The Atlanteans could breathe freely in the sea, but that doesn't mean they could do the same in a vacuum.
Taking advantage of Aquaman's momentary pause in breathing, Joey reached out and grabbed the top of the trident, pinning Aquaman to the spot.
No matter how hard Aquaman gripped the halberd, his weapon remained stuck in Joey's hand, completely immobile.
Joey forcibly suppressed the urge to roast the other man into mermaid jerky using his heat vision, and quickly pulled him out of the water and into the air. With a casual flick, he tossed Aquaman, halberd and all, onto a giant icy wave tens of meters high:
"Stop, Arthur."
Joey knew that killing Aquaman on the spot would hardly have a significant impact on the overall battle.
The political structure of the Atlanteans is different from that of Themyscira. On Themyscira, the queen almost single-handedly controls everything, and getting Wonder Woman Diana basically solves the Amazonian problem. But the Atlantean political structure is more complex.
The term "Atlanteans" is a general term for all deep-sea inhabitants. The Atlantean Sea King is nominally the "Lord of the Seven Seas," ruling over all Atlanteans and other deep-sea races. However, strictly speaking, almost every ocean has its own independent underwater kingdom, with smaller tribes and city-states beneath it.
Atlantis was the most powerful of the many underwater kingdoms, and its relationship with the other underwater kingdoms was as complex and ever-changing as the hierarchical relationship between the Habsburgs and the states of the Holy Roman Empire in the Middle Ages.
Taking advantage of the war with the Amazons, these underwater people indiscriminately attacked all land vessels appearing on the sea surface under the guise of a "state of war." Their targets were never just Diana and the Amazons.
This means that even if Aquaman is gone or obeys Joey's every word, the Atlanteans' war machine will not stop, especially after they have tasted the sweetness of war.
When they discovered that their blockade of the ocean was so effective that the land dwellers had almost no way to resist, why not take this opportunity to eliminate the threat once and for all?
"Arthur, think carefully, how exactly did this war begin?! Where is your brother? Have you seen him since you started your attack? From the beginning of the war until now, has he ever once suggested that we should negotiate?"
Joey asked this question because he had already seen Aquaman's brother, Orm, the loser in the previous struggle for the Atlantean throne, who had led an elite squad to break into the prison amidst the chaos.
With Wonder Woman's deliberate encouragement, the prison break team broke through numerous encirclements and rescued the traitor Pentessilia and her henchmen.
"You've been manipulated and used as a pawn all along. The idea to wage war against humanity on land wasn't yours, it was theirs!"
Aquaman's expression began to soften. Although he was still driven by hatred, he could sense that the Atlantis war machine was not operating in a way that entirely suited his wishes.
But he immediately gripped his trident tightly: "Don't even think about sowing discord between me and my brother!"
lie.
Although the Atlanteans sound more like mythical creatures than humans, they are essentially remnants of the pre-mythical era who sank to the bottom of the sea. Joey could clearly see Aquaman's breathing, heartbeat, and hormone levels and infer his emotions accordingly. He knew his words had worked.
For a half-brother like Arthur, considered a bastard by the legitimate royal family, to become the king of Atlantis, he must have already had a falling out with his half-brother, and that process was definitely not pleasant.
He did not choose to exile his own brother, but instead chose to keep him by his side as his right-hand man to assist him. This was not just because he was magnanimous.
"Go back, Arthur. With me here, you cannot attack the Amazons or the land world."
Joey wasn't even focused on Aquaman when he said this; he was scanning the deep sea, but still couldn't find the thing.
"Go back and ask your brother, Arthur, what kind of secret would make him risk his life to save an Amazon you all hate on the island of Britain."
Looking at the towering waves frozen into ice beneath his feet, Aquaman Arthur realized that unless he used that super weapon, it was unlikely he could wipe out the Amazons today.
This formidable enemy was infuriated by the Amazons' protection, but if Orm were to actually join forces with the Amazons, the whole situation would be completely different.
His personal feud with Wonder Woman was enough to make them fight to the death, but if all of this was orchestrated, then who should be held responsible for what's happening now?!
"I will come back once I have investigated and found out the truth of all this."
Aquaman's withdrawal this time is just a temporary measure. He wants to eliminate the traitors around him before making further plans, and it does not mean that he wants to give up his hatred for Wonder Woman.
Joey understood this as well. He knew that even if everything was a scheme orchestrated by the radical factions on both sides, the fact that Wonder Woman personally beheaded Mera was undeniable.
Even if Mera attempted to assassinate Wonder Woman first, and Wonder Woman's counterattack was in self-defense, it could not dispel Aquaman's resentment.
In this cold and ruthless world, every person who goes mad seems to have their own stance.
"I know you've secretly built a super weapon powerful enough to sink the entire continental shelf to the bottom of the ocean, but I recommend you don't use it."
Joey hates those magical contraptions; they completely block his perception of the world, but that doesn't mean he can't stop them from activating.
Joey pointed to the thick ice surrounding the British Isles, all caused by his breath:
"Think carefully about your duties as King of Atlantis, and think about the fate of the people of Atlantis."
Just as you now have the ability to wipe land-dwellers off this earth, I also have the ability to eradicate you all from this planet. Don't force me to prove it to you!
What Joey is talking to Aquaman about now is the shared fate of hundreds of millions of underwater people and billions of land people. In his own sense of "justice," everyone on this planet should have their own place.
