Chapter 40 Helping in an Emergency
Chapter 40 Helping in an Emergency
Need help urgently?
Looking at these four words, a question mark popped into Song You's mind.
What urgent matter could Wang Guoming have? Did the gas cylinder in the restaurant explode?
He typed two words on the screen: "What?"
Just as I was about to send it, two blinding white lights suddenly appeared outside the yard, followed by a series of urgent car horn sounds.
"Beep beep—"
The commotion startled the chicks that had just fallen asleep in the chicken coop in the corner of the yard, causing them to flutter about.
Song You frowned, put down his phone, and got up to walk to the door.
A black Mercedes SUV was blocking his front door in a domineering manner, its high beams blaring brightly, showing no respect whatsoever.
The car door opened, and a chubby figure jumped out in a hurry; it was Wang Guoming.
"Brother Song! Something terrible has happened!" Wang Guoming slapped his thigh, his voice so loud it seemed like dust was about to fall from the roof.
Song You's eyes hurt from the flashing light, and he raised his hand to shield them: "Brother Wang, what are you doing? In the middle of the night, anyone who didn't know better would think you're here to catch a thief."
"Catching a thief? That's much more serious than catching a thief!" Wang Guoming closed the car door and rushed to Song You in three steps. His chubby face was full of complicated emotions, including excitement, agitation, and a bit of helplessness.
Seeing his expression, Song You became even more curious: "What's wrong? Tell me slowly."
"My master!" Wang Guoming said in a low voice, his tone mysterious, "My master wants to see you!"
"Your master, Master Wang Tong?" Song You was taken aback.
After returning home that day, Song You took the opportunity to look up some information.
Although he had never met the master of Hunan cuisine, he knew from the descriptions of others that he was a big shot whose every move could make the entire catering industry in Hunan Province tremble.
"That's right!" Wang Guoming's expression became even more excited. "My master has been in seclusion in western Hunan, researching new dishes and preparing to compete for the title of master chef."
Song You nodded, signaling him to continue.
"You went to participate in that competition last time, right? When I got back, I casually mentioned to my master during a video call that I met a genius with unparalleled knife skills."
"and then?"
"Then my master didn't take it seriously and said I was making a fuss over nothing." Wang Guoming shrugged. "Later, you asked me about the follow-up to that book of tips, right? I mentioned you to my master again today and even sent him the video of your competition."
As Wang Guoming finished speaking, he took a deep breath and his eyes widened.
"You have no idea, after watching the video, my master remained silent for a full five minutes! Five minutes! You know my master; for him to even say 'not bad' to me is a big favor!"
"Then he gave me orders," Wang Guoming's tone turned serious. "He told me, tomorrow, just tomorrow! I must bring you to Xiangxi. He wants to see you in person!"
Upon hearing this, Song You's heart was also stirred.
Being so highly regarded by a master chef would probably make any other chef go crazy with joy.
But he wasn't a chef; he was a druid.
"Going to western Hunan? How many days will it take?" Song You asked the question he was most concerned about.
"My master can talk endlessly about cooking. I reckon it'll take at least three or four days," Wang Guoming calculated.
Three or four days?
Song You frowned.
His mind flashed back to Jiang Milu's somewhat arrogant face, and the agreement they made during their video call.
"Brother Wang, this is really unfortunate." Song You shook his head, a hint of apology on his face. "I have plans for the weekend, and I really can't get away."
It's not about who it is, but about who came first. You can't promise someone and then just break your promise.
"Huh?" Wang Guoming's expression instantly fell. "Can't get away? Brother Song, this is the first time my master has specifically requested to see an outsider! This opportunity..."
He was halfway through his sentence when he saw Song You's expression and knew there was no room for negotiation.
Yes, I was the one who was abrupt first.
He deflated, plopped down on a stone bench in the courtyard, and sighed deeply: "I knew it. My master is the same, always creating trouble for me. He doesn't even ask if anyone is available before making arbitrary arrangements."
Seeing his expression, Song You found it somewhat amusing and poured him a cup of cold tea: "Alright, it's no big deal. Just explain it to Master Wang; he's a reasonable man, he'll definitely understand."
"Sigh, that's all we can do." Wang Guoming took a sip of tea, still feeling a pang of regret.
"It's so late, and the roads are difficult to walk on. Why don't you stay here for the night? The guest rooms are all ready," Song You suggested.
"No, no." Upon hearing this, Wang Guoming immediately sprang up from the stone bench, his dejected expression vanishing in an instant, replaced by a lewd yet excited smile. "I have some incredibly good news waiting for me!"
He leaned closer to Song You, winking and saying, "Hehehe... Brother Song, you have no idea, I won that bet I told you about last time!"
"bet?"
"Just like that judge Liu Kun, the third-best striker from Hengshan!" Wang Guoming patted his chest, beaming with pride. "I bet you'd get first place. He even said I was crazy and wanted to get me an appointment with a psychiatrist!"
"And the result?"
"I won!" Wang Guoming grinned from ear to ear. "After I won, I made him pay out his bet."
"What's the stake?" Song You asked curiously.
"I told him to introduce his sister to me!" Wang Guoming's laughter was particularly loud in the quiet night. "You didn't see Liu Kun's expression at the time; his face was as green as a cucumber in a vegetable garden!"
Song You was speechless at his smug look.
After all that, this is the real reason he's excited tonight.
"I'm just about to strike while the iron is hot and pursue my happiness! I can't chat with you anymore, I need to hurry up and work on my battle plan for the next date!" Wang Guoming said, turning and walking towards the door.
"I'm not going to western Hunan either, to avoid getting scolded. I'm off, bro, wait for my good news!"
He opened the car door, jumped in, stepped on the gas, and the black Mercedes SUV quickly disappeared into the night.
Song You stood there and shook his head.
This guy is really a character.
He closed the courtyard gate and turned to go back to his house to sleep.
The courtyard returned to tranquility, with only the clucking of chicks peacefully sleeping coming from the chicken coop in the corner.
Song You suddenly stopped in his tracks.
His ears twitched slightly.
A very faint rustling sound, not the sound of wind, came from a corner of the courtyard.
The sound was faint and delicate, like some kind of animal pawing at the soft soil with its hooves.
Song You didn't make a sound. He tiptoed and looked in the direction from which the sound came, using the dim light from under the eaves.
He squinted, his pupils contracting slightly in the darkness, using the [Farmhouse Druid] ability to sense the difference.
In the shadows at the edge of the vegetable garden, a massive black silhouette stood silently.
It's that female wild boar.
The sow was clearly after Song You.
It stopped digging and slowly raised its head.
A man and a pig stood silently facing each other, a dozen meters apart, in the hazy night.
Song You's gaze fell on the enormous black creature.
