Chapter 3125 Going Up the Mountain and Going Down the River

Chapter 3125 Going Up the Mountain and Going Down the River

It's winter now, but the mountain is still lush with vegetation. As people's living conditions improve, they go up the mountain less and less often. The mountain paths that once existed are almost gone, replaced by shrubs and branches growing everywhere.

Dunzi's father walked in front, with the village chief following closely behind.

After climbing over a mountain, rabbit tracks began to appear in the jungle. Dunzi's father squatted down to examine the rabbit droppings and found what he thought was a small animal foraging path.

"Let's set two traps here," Dunzi's father said.

Zhang Tan didn't know how to do it, so he learned by watching.

"Should we just wait here?" Xiaobai asked.

Dunzi's father said, "Let's go back first, and come back to check on it tomorrow."

"Huh? That's it?" Xiaobai was greatly disappointed. This was completely different from what he had imagined hunting to be like. Not only did he not have a gun, but he hadn't even seen a single small animal. All he had was a snare.

Dunzi's father said, "Let's keep looking and see if we can find any rabbits out foraging for food."

If you can't find any live rabbits, but you find this foraging path, then set a trap and wait for them to come to you, trading time for a harvest.

So the group continued walking, when suddenly Dunzi, who was walking at the front, shouted: "There's a rabbit!"

The children, who were feeling bored, suddenly perked up and looked ahead. They didn't see a rabbit, but only rustling bushes.

"The rabbit ran into the bushes," Dunzi explained.

Dunzi's father also said, "It ran too fast, I didn't notice it immediately. It's a pity, I only caught a glimpse of it, it was so fat."

Little White quickly said, "Quickly set a trap here, so we can catch it when it comes out again!"

Robin chimed in, "My aunt is right! Set the trap!"

Seeing this, Xi'er's eyes darted around, and she shouted even louder, "Quickly set the trap! Don't scare the rabbit away!!!"

Dunzi and the little frog looked at her in surprise, then reminded her not to be so loud, or she would really scare the rabbit away.

Xiao Bai glanced at her niece and Xi'er, knowing perfectly well that her niece was shouting loudly because she was being silly, while Xi'er was shouting loudly because she really wanted to warn the rabbit not to come here.

Zhang Tan tried setting a few traps around him, and his technique gradually became more proficient. Xiao Bai followed along, curiously learning from him, when suddenly a gasp came from behind him.

"Auntie, save me!!"

Everyone was startled and turned around to see Robin looking bewildered, with two of her fingers caught in the trap.

"Silly boy, I don't even know what to say to you!" Xiaobai was completely speechless. Her father was setting a trap in front of her, and this silly kid was causing trouble behind her back, testing the law himself.

"I... I wanted to see if I could catch the little rabbit." Robin tried to explain her foolish behavior, but judging from her expression, she was very excited. It was the first time in her life that she had been caught in a snare, and it was very exciting. If she wasn't afraid of her aunt scolding her, she would have wanted to try again.

Xiaobai untied the rope from her and let Xier keep an eye on her.

Zhang Tan set several traps in succession before everyone left to continue searching for wild rabbits in the mountains.

It has to be said that the resources in the mountains are becoming more and more abundant. After walking for a short while, Dunzi's father signaled everyone to be quiet. He moved forward quietly and then waved to Zhang Tan behind him, signaling him to come over.

Zhang Tan cautiously approached and looked in the direction Dunzi's father pointed. Under a pine tree, sunlight filtered through the leaves, and two pheasants were playing.

Normally, Dunzi's father would have just started shooting arrows, but today the main task wasn't hunting, but to let Boss Zhang experience hunting. So, he risked disturbing the pheasants to call Boss Zhang over to see for himself and experience it firsthand.

The two discussed it and decided that each of them would shoot one. Dunzi's father would shoot the smaller one, and Zhang Tan would shoot the bigger one, which would be easier.

The two men drew their bows and nocked arrows, which flew silently. Several screams were heard, and Zhang Tan and Dunzi's father rushed over. Dunzi's father picked up a pheasant that was still flapping its wings, while Zhang Tan's hands were empty.

"Quick, chase after it! The pheasant is injured; it can't go far," said Dunzi's father.

Zhang Tan immediately followed the sound, and Xiao Bai, upon hearing it, grabbed a stick and followed closely behind.

Seeing this, Robin also grabbed a stick and was about to follow, but the next second he was stopped by Xi'er and Dunzi, who each grabbed one of her arms to prevent her from running around.

"Be careful, or you might get caught by a rabbit," Xi'er threatened.

Robin blinked. Something about what he said sounded strange. Was there something wrong with it?

Little White suddenly darted ahead of Zhang Tan.

"There it is! I see it!!!"

She pointed to the bushes ahead, her short legs moving swiftly, and found the pheasant lying down at the edge of the bushes.

The pheasant had an arrow stuck in its body and was already dead.

"Take a picture and send it to Dudu, haha."

Xiaobai took a picture first, and then showed the spoils to Dudu.

The others followed, and they all marveled at the pheasant that had been shot with an arrow; it was such a big pheasant.

Only Xi'er looked reluctant to let it go. If she hadn't seen that the pheasant was already dead, she might have asked her godfather to release it.

This time, I don't have to worry about going home empty-handed.

With their confidence boosted, they continued to wander around the mountains, but unfortunately they still couldn't catch any rabbits. They did find some tracks, but the rabbits ran too fast and didn't give them any time to react.

However, they caught two more pheasants later and cornered them in the bushes, leaving them with no way to escape.

As the sun gradually reached its zenith, everyone headed home. After a morning of exercise, the children were starving. Back home, Teacher Jiang and Tan Jin'er had already prepared lunch and were waiting for everyone to eat. Dunzi's mother was also there helping with the cooking.

Zhang Tan left the village chief and Dunzi's father behind, while Xiaobai left Baiguagua behind.

After lunch, the children said goodbye and rode their bicycles out to Guagua's fishpond to watch the fish being caught.

The water in the fishpond has receded by more than half, and some areas have exposed silt. Ripples are constantly spreading in the shallow water, indicating that there are quite a few fish hiding in it.

Bai Feng and the others were also there; they had been keeping watch, afraid of missing this good show.

"Xiao Bai, did you catch the rabbit?" Bai Feng asked.

Xiao Bai told them that they saw many rabbits on the mountain, but they didn't catch any; instead, they caught a few pheasants.

"That pheasant was covered in blood!" Xiaobai described.

"Little White!" Xi'er called out to stop them; she couldn't bear to hear any of this.

"Oh, okay, I won't say anymore." Xiaobai walked away and immediately called Tan Jin'er, telling them to make a stir-fried pheasant with chili peppers for dinner. She didn't believe that Xiwawa would say it wasn't delicious.

At 1:30 pm, the water in the fishpond was finally drained, and people started catching fish.

Bai Guagua's father specifically told the children not to go down to catch fish, because it was so cold and they might freeze in the water.

Although they couldn't go into the water to catch fish, the group was very involved on the shore. They not only helped bring the fish ashore, but also shouted and kept an eye on any big fish in the pond that tried to escape.

The fishing season was short, and they needed to catch all the fish before sunset, so Bai Guagua's family hired ten people from the village to help them catch fish.

Baskets of fish were brought ashore, where they were sorted by size and quality. Wholesalers then loaded them onto trucks and drove away. This made Zhang Tan, who was standing on the shore, feel quite emotional, realizing that the fish farming industry in Baijia Village was becoming increasingly mature.

As evening approached, Xiaobai and the others reluctantly left, not empty-handed. She carried a large bream, while Dunzi carried a large carp.
